Wonder Woman picture
Alter Ego: Princess Diana Home Town: Themyscira, Gateway City
Height: 5'11" Weight: 135 lbs
Eyes: Blue Hair: Black
H E R O

*Note for her height: in previous  Who's Who's she is listed as 5'11" however in the book, she towers over most men so a more practical estimate from the Byrne and Deodato art would be 6'1". For her weight: if her flesh is more durable than a human's [one] would think [that] her flesh would be more dense which would also give her a higher weight than what one would expect. A more reasonable estimate, given her invulnerabilities, would be 400 lbs.

The unborn soul of Princess Diana was taken by Gaea (The Creatrix, Spirit of the Earth) millennia before the birth of Christ when a pregnant cavewoman was violently bludgeoned to death by her mate. Gaea began taking the souls of women who met with like ends into her womb (see Amazons). When the five goddesses of Olympus created the Amazons, all of the souls in Gaea's womb were used, but one. Later, when Queen Hippolyte sought the Oracle's advisory on the strange loneliness she had been feeling, she learned that of all the Amazons only she had been pregnant when killed in her former life and the persistent longing she had been feeling was for her unborn child.

The Queen was instructed to go to the beach, make supplication to the gods, and to mold the form of her unborn child from the raw earth. At this time the goddesses of Olympus and the god Hermes returned to the cavern of souls from which they had birthed the Amazons centuries before. There, each of the Olympians blessed the last remaining soul with great gifts: Hermes gave his immeasurable speed and the gift of flight; Demeter gifted the strength and power of the earth itself; Aphrodite bequeathed great beauty and a loving heart. From Athena came tremendous wisdom; Artemis gave the skills and senses of the Hunter as well as unity with beasts; and Hestia granted the soul sisterhood with fire. The last gift bestowed upon the child was Gaea's gift of life with which the clay form was brought to life. The child was called Diana after a mortal woman who happened upon the island and subsequently died saving Themyscira and thus the world.

Later, the Oracle summoned the Queen and the General to reveal that Ares had gone mad and that the task of preventing the End of All Things fell to the Amazons. They were to select a warrior to go into the world of Man and oppose the War God's schemes. A contest was held and Diana was forbidden to compete by her mother and queen. However, the Princess was visited by Athena. Being the goddess of wisdom and unmatched in the art of war, Athena knew that great power was merely a warrior's tool. Thus, Diana was commanded to enter the contest without the benefit of her gods given talents to prove herself as Champion of the Amazons. Masked as all of the Amazons were no one knew the identity of the one Amazon whose skills were without match among these supremely disciplined warriors who had spent millennia honing their craft. At contest's end, one Amazon was without a doubt the victor. As their champion, she was rewarded the Olympian Bracelets and commanded to reveal her face.

Queen Hippolyte was both moved and astonished that her daughter had defied her wishes, but could not renege. Diana had earned the right to journey to Man's World and oppose the awesome power of the war god.

After Diana's battle with Decay over the city of Boston, the Editor-in-chief of the Boston Globe dubbed her 'Wonder Woman' and this alliterative sobriquet has remained the name by which most of earth's population and all of those she has encountered in other galaxies know the Amazon Princess.

STRENGTH LEVEL: Diana has impossible strength for which an upper limit has not been established. At the very least, she easily ranks in the upper 100 ton strength class. The source of her great strength is the earth itself as gifted by the goddess Demeter. Diana has on occasion used the Gauntlets of Atlas which augment her far more than considerable strength by a factor of ten. This is very dangerous and Diana seldom uses the Gauntlets.

POWERS AND ABILITIES: Diana's natural abilities far exceed those of an "ordinary" Amazon. Her stamina and endurance is many times greater than that of her sisters. She is also able to go without oxygen for many hours before needing to take another breath. Diana's body is constantly renewed through her connection to the earth which allows her to engage in rigorous physical activity for weeks before even she begins to tire. Like her sisters, her flesh is a lot more dense than a human's. While all Amazons heal much faster than a human, only Diana's wounds heal the instant they are inflicted through the regenerative energies of the earth. The combination of her enhanced Amazon physiology and her gods granted healing ability make it extremely difficult to incapacitate the Princess. Lord Hermes has granted the Princess his legendary speed as well as the unhampered gift of flight. While Diana's top speed has not been determined she has astonished and out-raced both Hermes and Mercury in the past. Diana's speed and flight powers are not based in the physical realm and thus not subject to the physical laws of the universe such as inertia. Diana's flight powers are not dependent upon the earth's atmosphere thus she may fly unhindered and unharmed through the vastness of space. Diana may call upon Artemis's gift to enhance her Amazon senses and to calm and communicate with any animal that is not ensorcelled. Hestia's gift to the Amazon--sisterhood with fire--has not been fully explored. It has been observed that the Amazon has tremendous invulnerability to energy attacks without deploying her defenses--flames, lasers, heat, and the like have little to no ill effects on the Amazon. Others have surmised that the gift manifests itself through the lasso's arcane energies. None of these has been conclusively substantiated.

WEAPONS:

  • BRACELETS: The Olympian Bracelets of Victory possess a number of mystical properties and measure about nine inches long. Completely indestructible, the bracelets were forged from the last remaining fragments of Zeus's Aegis--itself having been forged from the cornerstone of Olympus' power--at the command of the goddess, Athena. Aside from their indestructibility, the bracelets also transform as well as deflect any energy with which they come into contact. Those deploying an energy weapon stand the risk of having their ordinance returned with a greater intensity and with frighteningly greater speed. Whether or not Diana may control the magnitude that the energy is augmented has not been documented. They also mystically augment the wearer's resistance to injury by an as yet unknown factor. Their offensive capabilities have not been thoroughly assessed beyond this.
  • LASSO: Forged from the Golden Girdle of Gaea, the Lariat of Truth (also referred to as The Golden Lasso, The Magic Lasso, and The Lasso of Truth) is a very powerful defensive and offensive weapon. Absolutely unbreakable to any force known to mortal, god, or the Fates, it is the ultimate containment. No deception or deceit can withstand the lasso's fires. Anyone held by the lasso or in contact with the lasso is compelled to speak only the truth. In the past, it has negated shape-changer's morphogenic abilities restoring the captive to its true form. Diana has been observed using the lariat to form protective rings, to break spells, navigate mazes, and to traverse dimensions. The lasso's full offensive capabilities have been rarely observed and it is likely that the full extent of those abilities is not known. It has been demonstrated that the lasso's fires may consume both mortal and mystical beings on command.
  • TIARA: Aside from denoting Diana's station as the princess of Themyscira, her tiara can be used as a throwing weapon which returns. Forged by Hephaestus to be nigh indestructible and razor sharp, the tiara is a better than effective edged weapon capable of slaying mortal or god with equal ease.

***NOTE: As an Amazon, Diana has an entire personal armory as well as the Wonderdome technology. I have included here those weapons that she carries with her at all times. Additional information is available upon request.
