Boats in the harbor This program would work much like our successful Oyster Kids Program by involving elementary school children in the planting of bay grasses in the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay.

Working with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, we would develop an educational program to teach the importance of bay grasses in stabilizing the shoreline, increasing oxygen production, and providing habitat for bay fish and shellfish.

We would also incorporate boating activities that would include taking the kids to Poplar Island to plant young grasses on this island which is being created with the dredge spoils from various parts of the bay. The bay grasses program will also work with the Oyster Kids to create a demonstration area for bay grasses and a shallow water oyster reef.
