Clinton Deploys Vowels to Bosnia

Description of artwork:
From an idea on the www.theonion.com site: Clinton Deploys Vowels to Bosnia

Recently, documents have been declassified that show then-President Clinton's plan to deploy vowels to the syllabic-challenged land of Bosnia. A State Department spokeswoman (above) shows possible deployment routes into the country.

"For six years, we have stood by while names like Ygrjvslhv and Tzlynhr and Glrm have been horribly butchered by millions around the world," Clinton said. "Today, the United States must finally stand up and say, 'Enough.' It is time the people of Bosnia finally had some vowels in their incomprehensible words. The U.S. is proud to lead the crusade in this noble endeavor."

The deployment, dubbed Operation Vowel Storm by the State Department, had been planned for late 1998, with the Adriatic port cities of Sjlbvdnzv and Grzny slated to be the first recipients. Two C-130 transport planes, each carrying over 500 24-count boxes of "E"s," would have flown from Andrews Air Force base across the Atlantic and airdrop the letters over the cities.

However, these plans were cancelled as the President could not raise support from Congress to launch a full-scale vowel relief effort. To this day, Ygrjvslhv and Tzlynhr are still without the badly-needed vowels. This season, please remember the poor people in Bosnia and donate any spare "A"'s or "E"'s this holiday season. Remember, together we can make a difference.
