After the destruction of the Green Lantern Corps and the Power Battery at the hands of Hal Jordan (Parallax), the Guardians of the Universe placed all of their power into the only remaining power ring. (Green Lantern (2) #50) This ring was then given to the nearest, suitable candidate-Kyle Rayner. Where there was once an entire Corps protecting the universe, Kyle is now the only Green Lantern left.

Since there are no more Green Lanterns to train him, all of Kyle's training has been "on-the-job". Despite this inexperience, Kyle has already fought such villains as Mongul, Major Force, and even Darkseid. Kyle has even helped form the new JLA (with "established" heroes as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman). (Justice League: A Midsummer's Nightmare)

Green Lantern has the ability to form almost anything with his ring. The ring itself is only limited by the bearer's imagination and will-power, and unlike the past, this ring is not vulnerable to the color yellow.
