Apocalypse dates back to the time when Egypt was the world power. In the depths of the Sahara Desert, a legion of desert thieves on horseback came across an abandoned cloth-like blanket. After closer inspection, they found that the cloth held a baby. The baby would've been considered hideous to any mother. But, the leader of the theives decided to take the baby and raise it as his own. He named the child En Sabah Nur. As the child grew, his adoptive father noticed intriguing qualities within the boy. Not only was he extremely intelligent, but also agile and a flawless warrior. In every training event, he would reign victorious amongst his trainers. As a young adult, En Sabah Nur had long dark-purple hair. His lips were the same color of blue with the extensions to his ears as they are to the known Apocalypse today.

Eventually, the leader of the thieves, now consumed by age, decided that he was going to promote his son, En Sabah Nur, as the new leader. And with this honor, he was going to bestow him access to a secret treasure they had excavated some time before. The treasure was a strange floating orb, which gave off an eerie aura. It was thought to have been left by extra-terrestrials. However, the leader warned his son not to touch the orb in fear of what could possibly happen. Since it was ancient times, they had no way of studying the orb and thus feared what they did not understand. En Sabah Nur on the other hand believed in the trial and error method. So, against his father's will, he reached out and grasped the alien device. With a simple touch, he was granted the knowledge of the cosmos, as well as super-natural powers which became useful with his other mutant powers he claimed at birth.

Unfortunately, this brought forth a change in En Sabah Nur. He viewed his comrades differently, and even his very existence. He concluded that only the strong should be able to exist into the future. Thus, he devised the slogan "Survival of the Fittest." He became an omnipowerful being and continued to gain power throughout the centuries. Slaughtering the weaker of mutants, he decided to rename himself "Apocalypse" since his intentions were that of apocalyptic proportions. With his success he found that the powers he inherited from the alien orb were ephemeral. After exerting too much energy, he needed to rest so the energy could regroup and refill. So, he had a rejuvenation chamber erected. The construction was that of a pyramid with ancient Egyptian architecture. Every hundred years it would be necessary to return to this chamber and allow for his powers to recharge, like that of a battery. Apocalypse remains one of the greatest threats to the world and known universe. Even with the aide of the X-Men, does humanity and mutant-kind stand a chance against him? Only fate and time will decide.
